Chlamydia Self-Testing

Are you aged 15-24?

Have you heard of the new self-testing kits for Chlamydia?  This is a very common sexually transmitted infection that often doesn't cause any symptoms but can lead to chronic pain and infertility if not treated.  At least 1 in 10 people have it in Somerset.  We are encouraging any young people who have ever had sex to pick up a kit.  You can ask for one at reception, the Young Peoples Clinic, or when you see your GP or the Practice Nurses.  It involves a swab for the girls and a urine sample for the boys.  The kits come with full instructions and you just return the completed kit to the surgery.

If the result is positive, treatment is very easy.  It just needs one dose of antibiotics to clear the infection.

(If you are over 24 and would like to be tested this can be arranged via the Practice Nurses).
