Training Practice

Glastonbury Surgery is a training practice for post-graduate doctors who have worked in hospitals and are gaining experience of General Practice.  While with us, these post-graduate doctors are called GP Registrars.

GP Registrars

If you are offered an appointment with a GP Registrar you will receive the same level of care and attention as you would with any of our Doctors.  On occasion you may be asked for consent for the GP Registrar to video the consultation as part of their training assessment.  This video will ever only be viewed by the GP Registrar and their trainer during an assessment before it is permanently deleted.

GP Registrars are valuable and popular members of our clinical team.  Our own Drs Hazlewood and McCann were with us as GP Registrars before joining us as permanent GPs.

Medical Students

From time to time we also host Medical Students, usually during their final year of training.  They are not qualified doctors and cannot prescribe.  All their work with patients is closely supervised.  You may be asked if a Medical Student could observe your consultation with one of our GPs.  This is to help the Medical Student understand how a consultation can work from a clinical point of view.

Training Practice Status

In order to be accredited as a Training Practice, the Glastonbury Surgery has to meet strict criteria set by Health Education England, and we are reviewed on a regular basis.

Please ask a member of staff if you would like any further information on our status as a training practice.
