There is a new information sheet for patients explaining all about unscheduled bleeding on HRT and what to do about it.

This includes a chart showing the various possible doses of estrogen and the corresponding dose of progestogen to make sure the lining of the womb is protected.

If you are on the maximum suggested dose of estrogen e.g. the estradiol 100mcg patch or equivalent, you can discuss your options with your doctor. These include:

  • reducing your estrogen dose slightly
  • increasing your micronised progesterone
  • changing to a different progestogen e.g the combined patch
  • changing to the 52mg levonorgestrel IUD (e.g.Mirena)
